Boutique Hotel 't Klooster
We loved 't Klooster for the kind of history most hotels can only gesture at:...
Bayside Boutique Hotel occupies a 36-room corner of the Blue Bay Golf & Beach Resort, ten minutes outside Willemstad, and it reads less like a satellite property than a considered reduction of everything the resort does at scale. The design brief, handled by MICO Design in Miami with architecture by Henk Bolivar, aimed for something between the Hamptons and the Caribbean: white volumes, timber accents, and an elegance that stays understated rather than ornamental. Several ground-floor units are swim-up suites with direct access to the pool, and a number of rooms carry their own terraces and full kitchens, details that put Bayside closer to a boutique residence than a conventional hotel wing.
We chose Bayside because it solves the scale problem that larger golf resorts rarely address: guests who want an 18-hole course, a beach, and real sporting infrastructure, but not the anonymity of several hundred rooms. Bayside borrows the full resort's golf course, tennis courts, and beachfront while keeping its own footprint small enough that staff learn names and routines within a day or two. It is the kind of property where the infinity pool and the swim-up suites do a lot of the aesthetic work, but the real differentiator is the ratio of service to guest, rare at this price point on the island.
Blue Bay sits on Curaçao's calmer western coast, a ten-minute drive from Willemstad's Punda and Otrobanda districts and far enough from the cruise-ship crowds around Mambo Beach to feel like a different island. The resort wraps around its own 18-hole golf course, with Blue Bay Beach a short walk or buggy ride from the hotel itself, calm and reef-sheltered rather than a surf beach. It's a location built for routine — a morning on the course, an afternoon on the sand — rather than for hopping between neighborhoods, which suits travelers who have already done the sightseeing circuit and want a slower return visit.
Price: Upper mid-range to luxury
Vibe: Boutique-scale, Hamptons-meets-Caribbean, golf-and-beach routine
Rooms: 36 rooms and suites, including ground-floor swim-up units
Best For: Golf travelers, couples, guests who want a small hotel inside a full-scale resort
Our Favorite Thing About the Hotel: The swim-up suites, which turn the infinity pool into a private extension of the room
Dining: On-site Mediterranean restaurant and bar, with several further seaside restaurants across the resort
Amenities: Infinity pool, fitness centre, two tennis courts, private beach area, free access to the 18-hole golf course
Attractions: Blue Bay Golf Course, Blue Bay Beach, Willemstad (10 minutes)
The ground-floor rooms are the property's clearest signature: step out onto the terrace and into the infinity pool without crossing a lobby or a pool deck first. Interiors lean bright and uncluttered, with the white-and-timber palette carried through from the exteriors, and several suites add a kitchenette or full kitchen, useful for longer stays built around golf rather than restaurant-hopping. It's a small enough property that the pool rarely feels crowded, even when the wider resort is busy with golf groups and beach day-trippers.
Guests get complimentary access to the resort's 18-hole golf course, a genuine draw on an island where few hotels sit directly on a course, plus two tennis courts and a fitness centre for anyone keeping to a routine between rounds. Blue Bay Beach is close enough to reach on foot or by the resort's buggy service, calm water that suits swimming more than surfing, and a quieter alternative to the more built-up beach clubs further along the coast. The combination of golf, tennis, and beach inside one resort, with Bayside's boutique scale layered on top, is what sets the property apart from Curaçao's larger all-inclusive options.
The hotel's own restaurant serves Mediterranean food alongside a bar built for post-round drinks, and guests have the run of the wider resort's seaside dining options when they want a change of scene. Because Bayside sits inside Blue Bay rather than beside it, getting from a morning tee time to lunch, or from the beach to a shower and a nap, rarely takes more than a few minutes on foot. It's a property designed around that kind of convenience — golf, beach, pool, and table all within a short walk of each other — more than around any single standout amenity.
