Boutique Hotel 't Klooster
We loved 't Klooster for the kind of history most hotels can only gesture at:...
Scuba Lodge & Suites sits directly on the water at Pietermaai 104, in the historic waterfront stretch of Willemstad's Pietermaai district, and the sea is never far from any part of a stay here: guests hear it from the rooms, the pools sit within sight of it, and the hotel's own dive center runs straight off the property. More than 40 rooms, suites and apartments spread along the shorefront in a layout built for divers who want to roll out of bed and into a wetsuit, not for travellers chasing a grand lobby.
We selected Scuba Lodge for a dive program few hotels in Curaçao can match on paper: a team with more than 8,000 combined dives and upward of 25 years of island experience, working in small groups rather than the crowded boats common elsewhere. The house reef is kept up through a monthly clean-up dive guests can join, which says more about the operation's priorities than any marketing line would. Add two pools, an oceanfront restaurant and a location inside Pietermaai's restored historic centre, and the lodge covers both halves of a Curaçao trip — underwater and on land — without a guest needing to leave the property for either.
Pietermaai 104 sits in the oldest, most photographed stretch of Willemstad's waterfront, a district of restored pastel townhouses turned restaurants, bars and small hotels, with the UNESCO-listed old town and the Queen Emma Pontoon Bridge an easy walk away. Being on the water also puts the lodge within reach of its own boat trips north to Westpunt for turtle snorkelling and diving, and further out to the uninhabited beaches of Klein Curaçao, without the hour-plus drive those outings demand from hotels based elsewhere on the island.

Our Favorite Thing About the Hotel: the monthly reef clean-up dive guests can join alongside the house dive team
Dining: oceanfront restaurant and bar, breakfast baskets, BBQ nights and a Scuba Lounge satay night
Amenities: infinity pool, garden pool, on-site dive center, free WiFi, water sports facilities
Attractions: Superior Producer wreck and Mushroom Forest dive sites, weekly Westpunt and Klein Curaçao boat trips, Willemstad old town
Not every day at Scuba Lodge starts with a tank on your back. An infinity pool and a separate garden pool give non-diving time somewhere to go, and the oceanfront restaurant and bar run the full span of a day — breakfast baskets in the morning, salads and seafood through the afternoon, a BBQ night or a Scuba Lounge satay night once the boats are back in. It is the rare dive hotel that treats its kitchen as seriously as its compressor room.
This is a dive-first address, and the program — small groups, an experienced team, a weekly run to Klein Curaçao — is built around guests who plan to be in the water most days; non-divers are welcome but will find themselves the exception rather than the rule. Rooms and apartments favour function over flourish, each with a balcony or terrace and the basics done well rather than a long amenities list. Being right on Pietermaai's waterfront also means a short walk, not a taxi, gets guests into the district's restaurants and bars after the last dive of the day.
